Dimitrij Itten | Yoga, CfT & Gin Gin Festival

I’m glad to write something about Dimitrij – and I’m proud that people like him live in Saint Gallen! He is full of ideas and has founded some really cool events here – like the Cash for Trash or the GIN GIN Festival. He is also Yoga teacher, rides bicycle for «Velokurier» (cycle courier service), supports his wife as a cake tester in the Restaurant «Kafi Franz» and last but no least: he’s a proud dad!

Dimitij grew up in the Appenzellerland and moved to St.Gallen for serving his apprenticeship in a hotel business. Some years ago he moved for almost one year to Amsterdam and finally discovered his passion. He is full of energy and ideas and his passion are movement and sport.

Cash for Trash

In 2009 Dimitrij stayed in Berlin and visit a flea market at the Mauerpark. Every Sunday the flea market at Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg gets packed with a crowd of tourists and Berliners looking for secondhand clothes, vintage bags and jewelry. He loved the vibe and the stuff which was sold there. One year later, his idea of a cool flea market in St.Gallen was born. In the first years there were more and more second-hand stalls and self-made products of passionate hobby designers. On Dimitrij’s 30th birthday he even cracked the 1000 mark of visitors – that was a great and special gift for him.

Since 7 years the market is curated and the selection of designers and exhibitors are carefully selected. 4 years ago, Dimitrij put a lot of emphasis on fashion, meanwhile the mix is very colorful again. Today he organizes the event with Yannis Sfouggaris. No matter if you are interested in vintage, fashion, art, interaction, handmade or secondhand stuff – there are beautiful things in every price range. Nevertheless, it always takes an enormous amount of time to organize and plan the event but as soon as the doors open and the visitors come in, he always knows that the effort was worthwhile.

GIN GIN Festival

Since 2018 Dimitrij and his friend Yannis Sfouggaris founded the Gin Gin Festival. The Festival celebrates the world of gins with over 20 producers, importers and distillers. Over 1500 Visitors every year enjoy over 600 gins and a large selection of fine dining and DJ’s. There are also some Gin Producers from St.Gallen like for example Säntisblick Destillerie or Morris Dry Gin.

Yoga

Dimitrji completed his training as a Yoga Teacher with YTT certification in India in 2017. He teaches Vinyasa Flow Yoga: intense, versatile, humorous and always with depth. Yoga is his passion and his job. He has his own yoga school for two years now and also offers yoga for companies and institutions. For almost two years, he teaches outdoor yoga every Wednesday by the three ponds. In wind and weather. In the snow. And in the sun.
