This is one of the best place to buy jeans that suit your own style! Pinterest boards are already filled with short shorts, seersucker suit, lightweight trousers but there’s still a ways to go before we have truly hot weather. That makes the month of March and April the perfect time to stock up on old standbys like denim, since a good pair of jeans can be worn all year in St.Gallen City – from cool summer nights to downright frigid wind. So this is one of the best place to shop for the perfect jeans, whether they’re blue, white or black.
This shop is located in the old town in St.Gallen since 2012. In a very old building (around 200-300 years old) with a beautiful vaulted cellar in the basement. The owners of the «Jeanswerk» are Kai Glatt and Michael Kuratli – also the owners of The Rokker Company. The first time I entered the store, I met Matt and for me, he is the heart of the «Jeanswerk». Matt brings as well his personality to the store as also his personal items with stories – which makes this store (for me) unique. He works together with Raphi, Heidi and Mona.
«Jeanswerk» stands primarily for denim and boots. The focus is on the quality and sustainability of the products. They work closely together with creators and owners of Japanese, American and European brands. Some brands are already far older than 100 years. «Jeanswerk» is definitely not fast fashion neither common fashion – their fashion is timeless and imperishable. They have a large selection of boots, jackets, blazers, gilets, normal t-shirts, homemade leather wallets, belts or stylish headgear, handmade fly and much more. There are countless treasures to be found here, no matter your personal style aesthetic. The 6-year-old «Jeanswerk» sources its denim selection from the top contemporary designers, which includes Rokker, Ironheart, Indigofera, Tellason, Eat Dust, Edwin, Momotaro, Lee101, Replay, Blaumann, Studio Dartisan , Koi, Nudie, Benzak, Stetson, Sonofagun, Emma Opitz and many more.
raw denim jeans
They are specialized in raw denim. Denim is a cotton textile that’s probably most associated blue jeans. The most common color of denim is indigo, which is made using blue and white threads. Raw denim jeans means: the jeans are completely unwashed – like they were first made for workers at the end of 1800. The denims are woven on old looms, cut out and made up. After you buy them, you worn them for a longer time without washing (or wash them never). Take this from Hiut Denim: «Raw denim is best given a good six months before washing. The longer you can leave it, the better your jeans will look.». If you need to get rid of a smell, hang your jeans outside a sunny and windy day. Additionally, you can turn them inside out, wash with very little soap in cold water, shaking them well and hang to dry. The point of not washing them for as long as possible is to avoid breaking down the fibres of the denim, to preserve the deep indigos and the stiff feel of the fabric. Over time, the fades build up in distinct patterns moulded to you and when you finally wash them for the first time, those individually marks you’ve built up over the long time are left as some of the dye washes off. But of course… they also offer washed pants! It’s normal that not everyone want to do this process itself.
oz?
Matt explained to me, that they also sell Jeans with 25 oz and I was like „what“? So let me short explain what it’s all about. Denim is sold by weight. The whole idea of categorizing a jeans by weight comes from the weight a square yard of fabric weights in ounces, which relates directly to the density of yarn woven in and the weight of said yarn. Denim runs from 5 to 32 oz. The lower the number, the softer and more flexible the fabric, while the higher numbers are heavier and stiffer. «Jeanswerk» also sell Jeans with 25 oz and I can tell you: for me as a woman – they are super heavy!
Rokker Pro Store
They sell the entire Rokker assortment. The Rokker Company was founded in 2008 by Kai Glatt and Michael Kuratli. The Rokker jeans are high-quality, abrasion-resistant motorcycle jeans for real bikers. The jeans are designed in Switzerland and made in Portugal. therokkercompany.com
