The «Wine Gallery» is a local family owned boutique. Ten years ago in 2009, Simone and Ueli Lanz opened this store in the «Hinterlauben»-Street. A small street in the middle of the old town but a little hidden. Now her son, Nils Lanz and his wife Petra are the new Shop owners.
Some month ago, Nils wrote me a message on Instagram and invited me to a glass of wine in his store. The «Wine Gallery» exists for over 10 years and I was never there before – so of course I accept this pleasant invitation! I met him and his wife and while I asked him a few questions, I tasted a cold, sweet and wonderful white wine from their own winery. Quickly I realized, that I can ask Nils all about wine. He knows a lot to tell and the good thing is, his suggestions are jargon-free. He is brilliant, honest and has great advice on trying, selling and buying wine.
The most part of the abundant wines hail from European biodynamic, certified organic, or practicing organic wineries. They introduce you to wonderful, new and exciting wines you would not discover elsewhere. Focusing on out of the ordinary finds, they do their best to support small, family owned and sustainable operated properties.
Choosing a good wine is completely subjective. How each person defines a good wine is unique to them and their taste buds. Whether you prefer delicate, sweet, tart, bold or even spicy flavors, it is possible to find here a wine you adore. Therefore you can considering several factors — occasion, flavor preferences, labels and price. But not only the wine is important, also the wine glass! It’s about how the shape of the vessel collects aromas and deposits wine into your mouth. In order to taste flavors in wine you really need space above the wine to collect aromas.
Nils hold regular wine tastings throughout the year and can also arrange wine tastings for groups, a pre-hen party or business get-together. The wine tasting events are informative, fun and most of all, enjoyable. Pitched at the beginner level and aimed at introducing people to the world of wine, yet still broad enough to satisfy more experienced wine drinkers. By the way, if you buy 6 bottles of wine, they’ll deliver your wine purchase conveniently to your home front door. If you want to arrange a wine tasting – write an email to: email@example.com
They also sell special large-format bottles and GIN. Large-format bottles tend to age more gracefully, as they have less oxygen exposure. Of course, these colossal trophy bottles also deliver grandeur and bring the «wooooooow» factor to dinner parties.
Specialty food and high quality porcelain
The also sell specialty foods and high-quality porcelain, exclusive table linen and accessories – discover the art of sophisticated dining and take inspiration from their range. The most popular item in the store is a hand-woven kitchen towel. They are woven by an old lady in Switzerland and cost CHF 15.-. «A man comes regularly to us to buy these special chips.» says Nils and show me the TORRES chips with ham flavour.
The products and the service are a good reason to buy your wine or present here in this lovely store in the old town. If you like, you can sit down and try some of the wines. I’m sure they’ll help you choose the right wine for you or the person you want to give one. I guarantee you: you’ll discover new bottles to fall in love with.
