»» Kugelgasse 8
In 1690, the reformed citizen Jakob Schlappritzi ordered the installation of the famous «Kugelerker» at his house (Kugelgasse 8). Three of the twelve Hercules (Heracles) exercises are presented. Hercules and two Turkish galley slaves (chained, with mustaches and turbans) support the oriel. Hercules is wearing a lion hide. It came from the Nemean Lion – a giant, fierce beast with impenetrable skin that lived in a cave in Nemea.
On the left you can see a long-distance traveler, a Jacob pilgrim with hat and walking stick – for the West or the night. On the right side you can see an Emperor in ancient armor holds an orb – symbolizing the East or the day. As a template for the clothes served a sketching by the carver De Marolles, namely the scene in «Calaïs and Zetes».
