Anna Heller was the last witch to be burned in St.Gallen. She lived from 1630-1691. A street is named after her «Hellerstrasse» in «Bruggen». Nice to know: Only 20 streets in St.Gallen are named after women.
After being tortured for a long time, she confessed that she had poisoned her husband.
Her execution was considered one of the most brutal. Her right hand was cut off and the stump bandaged. She was then tied to a ladder and placed face down on the pyre.
By the way, Anna Göldi (1734-1782 (almost 100 years later)) was the last witch to be accused of witchcraft and executed in europe.
