In 1690, the reformed citizen Jakob Schlappritzi ordered the installation of the famous «Kugelerker» at his house (Kugelgasse 8). Turkish galley slaves (chained, with mustaches and turbans) support the oriel, on the boards enterprising long-distance travelers: a Jacob pilgrim (name patron) and a warrior. Atlas or Heracles supporting the Globe. A common misconception today is that Atlas was forced to hold the Earth on his shoulders, but Classical art shows Atlas holding the celestial spheres, not a globe.
